Changes in Our Program This Year
As Covid-19 continues to effect us all GS24 won't look exactly the same as it has in the past, but Christ's work continues! We are so exited to share with you our plan for ministry this semester. We are confident that it will bless both our teens and our families.
After listening to the feedback of our parish families, we realized that the key to a successful semester of Youth Ministry here at St. Mary Magdalene is options, options, options! Thus, we've created options for teens to participate virtually in person and in the larger community.
GS24 will begin Sun, Sep 13. We will have a few different types of in person events on our schedule this year.
Rodzinka is a Polish word meaning "little family." During St. JP2's early years as a priest he and a few other young people would meet together in groups he called "Rodzinka" to discuss their religion, hike, play and grow as friends. Covid-19 has given us the opportunity to experience "little families" within GS24! We will meet here at the parish beginning right after the 4:30pm mass (around 5:45-6:00pm) and ending at 7:00pm. Everyone is invited to to attend the 4:30pm Mass. During the night we will be divided into Little families" of 8 teens and 2 adults. Each group will have their own room/outdoor space with their own entrance and designated parking area. In these groups we will listen play, laugh, listen to a talk, have small group discussion and pray together.
Community Service: We can only find our true selves through a gift of ourselves! Thus, GS24 will meet off campus for a community service initiatives once or twice a month. These will include recycling/trash pick up initiatives, outreach to those experiencing homelessness, food drives etc. (If their is an initiative that you would like to see us help with let us know!)
Community Nights: We will have as many community nights as possible. The CDC guidelines allow for outdoor meetings of up to 50people. Our community nights will be out doors and will include social distancing protocol. Ex. Drive in movie, guys and girls nights, sports nights etc.
For GS24 Online we will be utilizing YouTube Live and Zoom. The same GS24 content (virtual game and a talk) used for GS24 Rodzinka-Little Family nights will be streamed for those that would like to participate virtually. After virtual participants watch the talk they are invited stay in touch with the community by hoping on to zoom for a virtual small group lead by our awesome Core Members.
Social distancing and Masks
While on campus all teens and adults are required to wear masks and practice social distancing.
GS24 Community Night: Kickball
Add Sun, Oct 25 @ 5:45 PM - 6:45 PM
Sundays 5:45-6:45pm (Core is asked to stay for a 10 minute meeting after the night is over. We will never hold you later than 7:30pm. Core Members are invited to attend the 4:30pm Mass if they wish. Youth Group will begin directly after the mass has ended. This Fall we will be using a small group format of 9 teens or less per group.
The small group leaders will lead an opening ice breaker, discussion and prayer activity. A skit and the talk for the night will be streamed to each small group.
Please pray for our Youth Evangelization program and all the teens of St. Mary Magdalene, and know that we are praying for you! St. Mary Magdalene, pray for us!
