About Safe Environment
We can all be part of the solution—together we can prevent child abuse. All priests, deacons, employees, and volunteers must complete or renew Safe Environment Training every year.
In the Diocese of Phoenix all volunteers must complete "Protecting God's Children for Adults" as a foundation course for Safe Environment. It is a 3 hour program which will educate and empower adults about how to help prevent abuse. You will also complete a Volunteer Application and sign a Code of Ethics. In addition, you will learn:
- How to separate the facts from the myths about child sexual abuse
- How sexual offenders gain access to children
- What to do when you see warning signs in children or adults
St. Mary Magdalene will be offering the training on the following dates:
Wednesday, November 4, 2015 - 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Friday, November 13, 2015 - 9:00 am - Noon
Wednesday, November 18, 2015 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Saturday, December 5, 2015 - Noon - 3:00 pm
Go to www.safeenvironmenttraining.org to register for a training class at St. Mary Magdalene or at another parish.
A renewal training is offered for all subsequent years. This training is offered through in-class sessions or through computer “online” training.
To check your status and register for the renewal class, go to www.safeenvironmenttraining.org and click "My Obligations."
The deadline to complete the training or renewal is December 31st. If you have not renewed by December 31st, you will not be able to volunteer in any ministry.
