Tuesday/Wednesday Night Family Catechesis (Grades K-5)
From Kindergarten through 5th grade, Family Catechesis at St. Mary Magdalene aims to develop a personal relationship and a deep conversion with Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church for children and their parents through prayer, the liturgy, the Sacred Scriptures and the teachings of the church.
The children will prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist using the Faith and Life Series by Ignatius Press. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI), Dr. Scott Hahn, and our own Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted have praised this catechetical formation model.
Trained catechists and aides, who strive to faithfully pass on the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church, will oversee and run the sessions for the children. Fr. Chris Axline (Parochial Administrator) and Tom Perna (Director of Family Catechesis) will be the primary catechists for the required weekly parent sessions (one parent or both will attend while child is in class) yielding to other adult catechists to present topics as well.
Family Catechesis meets weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday Nights from 5:00-6:00pm and 6:30-7:30pm in the classrooms and the hall of the main building.
Since space is limited, first priority will be given to our returning families from the 2018-2019 who are registered parishioners of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
