Tuesday/Wednesday Night Family Catechesis (Grades K-5)
From Kindergarten through 5th grade, Family Catechesis at St. Mary Magdalene aims to develop a personal relationship and a deep conversion with Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church for children and their parents through prayer, the liturgy, the Sacred Scriptures and the teachings of the church.
The children will prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist using the Faith and Life Series by Ignatius Press. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI), Dr. Scott Hahn, and our own Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted have praised this catechetical formation model.
Trained catechists and aides, who strive to faithfully pass on the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church, will oversee and run the sessions for the children. Fr. Chris Axline (Parochial Administrator) and Tom Perna (Director of Family Catechesis) will be the primary catechists for the required weekly parent sessions (one parent or both will attend while child is in class) yielding to other adult catechists to present topics as well.
Family Catechesis will meet weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday Nights from 5:00-6:00pm and 6:30-7:30pm in the classrooms and the hall of the main building.
Online registration for 2018-2019 will open on July 1 for returning families (by way of Flocknote) and July 16 for all new families (on this page). To register for Family Catechesis, a family must be a registered parishioner of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
Since we are returning to a weekly schedule (Sacramental preparation will be done in the weekly classes), space is limited. As stated above, first priority will be given to registered parishioners of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Those who have registered in the past just for religious formation ("RE only"), will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis once the parishioners catechetical needs have been met. If there is room, we will consider your registration.
