May Crowning

05-01-2022This Week in Vidi DominumFr. Chris Axline

Did you know that May is a month dedicated to Our Blessed Mother? To celebrate her intercession in our life it’s an ancient tradition to crown our Lady on May 1st as a way of asking her to intercede for us and to share in her joy in Christ risen from the dead. Today’s insert features that rite so that you can pray along with us as we crown Mary during our 9:00am Mass. You can also adapt this rite if you’d like to crown an image/statue of Mary in your own home.

In Mass this takes place after the homily but before the Creed. If you’re doing this at home I recommend reading Luke 1:39-56 (Mary’s Magnificat).

After the homily, the crown is processed by a parish family while all sing Immaculate Mary.

Priest will recite the Invocation and Blessing of Crown & Crowning of the Virgin.

Regina caeli will chanted during incensation of the statue.

At the conclusion of the hymn we resume Mass as usual resuming with the dismissal of catechumens, the Creed, and Universal prayer.

May Mary intercede for us and help us to more closely follow Christ and may we share with her, the joy of Easter that Christ risen from the dead dies no more!
